We are thrilled to be exclusively partnering with our client for the recruitment of a Financial Controller located on the outskirts of Brisbane CBD.
Our client is one of the leading convenience store chains in Australia, with over 85 retail locations and growing. This dynamic brand is committed to providing customers with everything they need, whether it’s groceries, snacks, fuel, or essential services.
This role is pivotal in driving financial excellence and overseeing daily operations. The position requires a proactive professional with strong retail operational expertise, strategic vision, and a passion for continuous improvement in finance processes. This role will work closely with the Group General Manager.
The Role:
As a Financial Controller leading a finance team of 2-3 direct reports with potential in-direct oversight of an IT team, and being part of the leadership team, you’ll manage and oversee all financial operations, ensuring efficiency and accuracy across accounts payable, receivables, stock control, and reconciliations. More specifically:
- Ensure compliance, accurate financial reporting, and sound fiscal management to support the business model’s scalability and profitability.
- Budgeting and forecasting including cash flow management (monitoring Inflows/Outflows, working capital management, liquidity management, franchise-specific cash flow activities, compliance and optimisation).
- Regulatory compliance and Audit.
- Support the leadership team in strategic decision making with growth and stakeholder reporting.
- Cost control and profitability.
- Systems and process oversight.
- Utilise Oracle NetSuite for financial management and reporting.
- Ensure seamless collaboration between offices in Brisbane and Cairns.
- Manage and optimise rebate systems and supplier relationships.
- Provide strategic input on financial planning, including energy contract reviews and operational efficiency projects.
- Represent the finance team across the business and contributing to organisational growth initiatives.
- Manage consolidation of reports, performance analysis and KPI tracking.
The ideal candidate:
You will have demonstrated ability in the following criteria to be successful:
- Demonstrates energy, talent and have a proactive approach as there is opportunity to grow into further senior leadership roles.
- A minimum of 4 years as a financial controller with experience within retail, FMCG or large-format convenience sectors.
- Experience in Franchise/Corporate models.
- Relevant tertiary education (CPA/CA desirable).
- Leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage and develop a small to mid-sized team.
- Skilled in stock control, reconciliations, and managing supplier relationships.
- IT-savvy, with strong analytical skills and experience leveraging financial systems.
- Passionate, have a progressive mindset and a positive outlook.
- A proven track record of working in both corporate and franchise environments, with experience in similar roles.
- Experience managing finance functions in a dynamic, growing business environment.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and drive operational improvements.
- Highly skilled in communication, team leadership, and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in relevant industry tools.
- Ability to build genuine relationships.
- Be proactive in your approach to getting results.
- Great communicator with ability to influence change.
